In this article, we'll discuss the advantages and disadvantages of being a remote solopreneur so that you can make an informed decision about whether it's right for you. What Are The Advantages of Working as a Solopreneur Abroad?

Working as a solopreneur abroad is an exciting opportunity to see the world and experience different cultures while still pursuing your professional goals. It provides the freedom of being your own boss, and the flexibility to work from anywhere in the world. With this comes a range of advantages such as increased autonomy, more control over projects, and greater potential for financial success. By working as a solopreneur abroad, you can gain insights into different markets, develop new skills, build international networks and explore new opportunities.

In my case, these advantages have meant that I in 2022 alone, I was able to work while exploring Yucatan, Mexico for a month, work from London for four weeks and combine work and visiting family in Italy before returning to Bristol in the UK and take extended weekend stays in Fuerteventura and Morocco.

It’s not just travel that remote work offers as a benefit, but as most of my businesses are 80% automated, I’m also able to use my free time to explore new ideas, concepts and test new initiatives. Being time rich is the best kind of wealth to generate, in my opinion.

Which Challenges Exist while Working as a Solopreneur Abroad?

Working as a solopreneur abroad can be an exciting and rewarding experience, but it also comes with its own set of challenges. From navigating different cultures and legal systems to finding the right workspace and staying connected, there are a lot of things to consider when launching your business overseas.

Legal Systems

Many remote workers are drawn to destinations that offer substantial fiscal advantages. The Solopreneur is offered tax incentives and the destination benefits from foreign investment, creating the perfect partnership.

However, even in such situations, it's vital to have a basic understanding of the local legal system before settling as it can be a lot more complicated than it seems which can put your business at risk in the long term.

Always seek professional advice from multiple certified experts before making any decision.

Finding The Right Workspace

To be a successful remote Solopreneur you will need to create a sustainable and productive environment for you to thrive in. This needs to be somewhere that stimulates your creativity, creates distance between you and distraction and somewhere that you look forward to spending your time each day in.

A very common solution is a Co-working or Co-living space where you can connect with other remote Solopreneurs in a community and participate in live events. The biggest advantage of these solutions are in fact the community and having a dedicated work space that is already created and curated for you.

Co-living spaces offer remote work experiences in a community

Things to consider with this option include whether you need a soundproof space for calls and if you're the type of person who doesn't like committing to subscriptions and communities.

Going to a café or a library is not my favourite option although they are possibilities for many. I believe it's always important to have a dedicated work space where you live, one that is separate from living or sleeping areas in your home and one that you can access easily, on demand but importantly, away from noise and distractions.

.While this option is easily accessible and affordable, the downside is that it can be very isolated if you are working from home for lengthy periods of time. In the past, there have been days where I haven't even left the house because I simply didn't need to but over time, comfort will kill your motivation and creativity.

How To Take Care Of Yourself While Working Remotely

Working remotely can be a great way to get work done while still having the freedom and flexibility of setting your own schedule. However, it can also come with its own unique set of challenges. To stay productive and healthy, it’s important to take care of yourself while working remotely.

Plan your day

Block out time in your calendar for things like meals, work-related activities, exercise, and scheduling appointments.

Balance Work Committments With Life Commitments

Balance work with other activities. One way to make sure you’re not working too much at home is to ensure you’re dedicating enough time to family or loved ones, making new friends, sleeping regularly, eating consciously and making enough alone time for you to reflect.

Connect With Your New Community

Another huge challenge for Solopreneur is living overseas is finding interesting people to connect with and make friends. The older one gets the more difficult it can be to make great friendships, which comes even more difficult if you're living in a new place with a new culture.

Without a tribe, we quickly feel isolated and our overseas adventure can quickly lose purpose if we aren’t sharing experiences and making new memories with inspiring people.

Dedicate time to finding groups who share a particular interest or hobby that you enjoy so you

can bond with them.

Remember, meaningful relationships take time to develop and will need consistent investment in order for them to flourish. Think long-term here.

Adventure

One of the biggest reasons professionals transition to a remote work lifestyle is to be able to free up their time and use it for fun. I have often used my free time to go on adventures and bring spontaneity in my life and weekly routine, the complete opposite of my disciplined schedule. Which type of adventures would you go on?

Conclusion: Should You Become A Remote Solopreneur?

Becoming a remote solopreneur is a great way to take control of your career and become your own boss. With the right skills, you can build a successful business and enjoy the freedom that comes with working remotely.

However, it's important to remember that being a solopreneur isn't for everyone. You need to have the discipline and motivation to stay focused on your goals and work hard to achieve them. You also need to be comfortable with taking risks and dealing with uncertainty.

If you're willing to put in the effort, becoming a remote solopreneur can be an incredibly rewarding experience. It offers you the chance to pursue your passion while enjoying more freedom, flexibility, and autonomy than ever before.
